Southampton set to sign Bordeaux youngster Mara - most expensive teenager of the summer

Courted French talented forward Sékou Mara moves to the Premier League. His previous club Girondins Bordeaux announced  an agreement in principle with Southampton on Thursday. According to Bordeaux, a transfer fee of €13 million will be paid for Mara, who had also been linked with Newcastle and Borussia Mönchengladbach, among others. For Southampton, Mara, who scored six goals in 27 games for Girondins last season, is the fourth summer signing to break the 10 million mark. In total, the club invested €56.4 million for six new players so far.

The 19-year-old draws level with Leverkusen’s Adam Hlozek and RB Salzburg’s Lucas Gourna-Douath as the most expensive teenager in the current transfer window. Mara also becomes the most expensive U-19 signing in the English club’s history, surpassing new teammate Roméo Lavia, who joined Southampton for €12.3 million from Man City earlier this month.
